Annual Tea, 4-23-2017

Posted by jana @ 8:00 am

As usual, with this fabulous event, it was brilliant!

KAA_Tea_4-23-2017_P1140446w

People came early to get the chance to see all the tables.

KAA_Tea_4-23-2017_P1140478w

Linda’s table was yellow.

KAA_Tea_4-23-2017_P1140476w

Interestingly, this year there were two absolutely different Black and Pink Tables.

KAA_Tea_4-23-2017_P1140460w

The table below is of the nautical style.

KAA_Tea_4-23-2017_P1140457w

This is the first year that A Man offered to decorate a table. He chose Truman U

as his theme.

KAA_Tea_4-23-2017_P1140454w

Alaska had her table.

KAA_Tea_4-23-2017_P1140466w

The Girl’s Table was beautifully dressed with all the right sets of dishes, a quilted

tablecloth, and dolls and lollypops! Of course, the girls all had their hats on.

KAA_Tea_4-23-2017_P1140452w

Speaking of Hats; here is a gallery of ladies who attended in hats.

Also, as usual, The Gentlemen served us.

KAA_Tea_4-23-2017_P1140496w

During the tasty morsels, the Table Decorators told us of their inspiration for their

tables, about the theme they chose and where they got the dishes they used in

the table arrangement. Fascinating. You should have been there!

KAA_Tea_4-23-2017_P1140502w

The many who joined us for Tea today gave their attention . . .

. . .  to the Speaker of one of the Pink and Black Tables.

KAA_Tea_4-23-2017_P1140554w

Sousa Returns to Kv, 4-4-2017

Posted by jana @ 8:00 am

Another wonderful Lunch ‘n Learn Lecture by Dr. Tom Trimborn,

with slides, music, and stories about Sousa, when he was here in Kirksville.

KAA_LunchNLearn_Trimborn_4-4-17_IMG_2656w

There is always something to learn from these Lectures.

KAA_LunchNLearn_Trimborn_4-4-17_IMG_2670w

As usual, a good turn-out of folks bringing in their own brown bagged lunches.

KAA_LunchNLearn_Trimborn_4-4-17_IMG_2649w

In this lecture, a Guest Speaker, Glenn Novinger, told of his experiences.

KAA_LunchNLearn_Trimborn_4-4-17_IMG_2673w

Again we thank Dr. Trimborn for his expertise and

willingness to share it with us.

Demolition Finale, 3-15-2017

Posted by jana @ 8:42 am

The task seems to be done, except for the bright green grass.

These last two days finish things up.

KAA_Demolition_3-13-2017_P1140147w

The whole North Wall has been completely removed.

All the debris has been hauled off in big trucks.

KAA_Demolition_3-13-2017_P1140148w

There IS that pit in the North East Corner. What will they do with that?

Fill it in. Level it off. Plant seed.

So Now they can take down the Chain Link Fence.

They can open all the roads.

KAA_Demolition_3-13-2017_P1140157w

So here you have it, exactly:

The Before and After

After the Asbestos was removed safely,

After the Mosaic from April 2013 was removed as carefully as possible,

THIS is what the burned out KAA building looked like, dated Feb 9, 2017.

KAA_Demolition_2-09-2017_P1130218w

Notice Pickle’s Abstract, the little yellow building.

And on March 15, 2017 it was no more.

KAA_Demolition_3-15-2017_P1140186w

All the roads are now open.

Pickle Abstract has been given their permission to begin their

clean-up and restoration.

Next Phase begins. No doubt, it will include finance, quilt claims,

fundraising, and so many generous people with ideas that will endure.

The Phoenix Arises.

Demolition, 3-8-2017

Posted by jana @ 12:57 pm

These pictures cover Wed Mar 8 and Thu Mar 8, 2017.

Don’t miss the videos. Always short. Always interesting.

KAA_Demolition_3-8-2017_P1140046_Overvieww

Well, now you see the corners are down. Only 4 Windows from the

3rd floor remain on the North Side. They have carried away in big trucks

tons of detritus.

KAA_Demolition_3-8-2017_P1140054_MidAirw

The fellow in the cage is at the very top, loosening mortar and tossing

the bricks into the heap.

KAA_Demolition_3-8-2017_P1140057_NorthWallw

Notice the brick in flight. He is making progress by the minute.

KAA_Demolition_3-8-2017_P1140075_Cornerw

Today the corner is almost clear. You can see the sand they poured over

the sidewalk for protection from the heavy equipment. You can see the

bales of hay they used on top of Pickles Abstract Building to soften the

blow of debris that may fall that way.

The 3rd Story is almost down.

Now Thu Mar 9, 2017 starting out with just a tad left on the 3rd Floor

North Wall. He is at it right now. See on top of the building?

Notice also the courthouse with her “Lady Justice” atop.

KAA_Demolition_3-9-2017_P1140100w_Overview

The Three Men have a short business meeting right there in the pile of bricks.

KAA_Demolition_3-9-2017_P1140101w_Meeting

The scoop loads the truck with the demolished KAA building bricks,

sand, mortar, rocks, walls, floors, equipment destroyed in the Dec 2, 2016 Fire.

KAA_Demolition_3-9-2017_P1140119w_Truck

To see a short video of the crane filling the big 16-Wheeler up with the

building materials CLICK HERE.

Now the final piece is all that is left standing.

Before the end of day, it’s Gone.

KAA_Demolition_3-9-2017_P1140124w_Wall_LastBit

Last piece now gone.

KAA_Demolition_3-9-2017_P1140125w_Wall_LastBit

The corner is stripped. The mess and the bricks and I-Beams are almost all

picked up and hauled away. It stood for 107 years. Good Bye.
