Who We Are
The Kirksville Arts Association (KAA) is a not for profit registered 501(c)3 organization serving Adair County and the greater Northeast Missouri region. KAA is governed by a volunteer board of directors and depends on hundreds of local volunteers throughout the year in support of its programs and fiscal well-being.
Our NEXT Step
KAA is ready to take the next step with your help. Our vision is to become the ambassadors of art and culture in Adair County and the surrounding counties. With that in mind, KAA is undertaking a $1 million capital, three-phase project to purchase, renovate, and transform the old Baldwin Biz Mart located at 119 South Franklin in Kirksville into an Art and Cultural Center. The center will house a 100 seat theater, an art gallery, a dance studio, rehearsal space/black-box theater, offices for the KAA and shared space for arts/cultural organizations, working artists suites, a fine art/independent film auditorium, and an arts library.
Our goal is twofold. We will continue providing the community at large our outstanding programs and to expand on event sponsorship to bring new programs into the fold. A permanent home awards us the venue to house the Curtain Call Community Theatre, the Kirksville Community Chorus, the KAA, our arts and after-school programs, dance classes, etc. under one roof. Bringing art and cultural programs together increases accessibility and visibility to our programs, our organization, and to art and culture in general.
What Does The Area Gain?
With the loss of manufacturing jobs and industry in our area, the need to draw high tech and higher paying jobs to our region becomes increasingly imperative. How does this project help? In Kirksville, we need to set ourselves apart from other like-sized rural communities when vying for businesses. Businesses in today’s economy look at the community as a whole when thinking of how to attract a work force to relocate here. We don’t have the advantage of living on a beach, near the mountains, on a major body of water, or in an area benefiting from a tropical climate.
We set ourselves apart by being progressive on quality of life issues. Art, museums, music, theater, cultural events, festivals, cinematography, parks, recreation, bike paths, community beautification, historic restoration, entertainment, shopping and dining MUST become selling points of this community. Tax credits and deferments are techniques being utilized by most communities serious about bringing industry to their areas, so this issue becomes mainstream. Safety, low crime rates, quality of traditional public schools, air quality, and the lack of traffic congestion cannot be our only selling points.
What We Need
We need your financial support! Dig deep. Leave a family legacy by underwriting a project for the naming rights. Consider a charitable remainder trust for tax benefits. Consider that we are a 501(c)3 organization and your donation is tax deductible. Consider providing an in-kind donation of products or services that benefit the construction project. Consider committing to a donation spread over a year or more. Committing to the money provides leverage to our organization.

Charitable Giving
Gifts of Securities
Gifts of securities or stocks can be one of the
most advantageous ways of giving. If your gift
of stock is one you have owned for more than
one year, you may deduct the full fair market
value of the stock as a charitable contribution,
while bypassing applicable capital gains taxes
if it is appreciated. If you are interested in
giving appreciated marketable securities
(stocks, bonds, mutual funds, etc) to the
Kirksville Arts Association, call the Arts
Association for assistance.
Gifts of Real Estate
You may give real estate to the Kirksville Arts
Association while retaining your rights to use
and enjoy the property during your lifetime.
Gifts of Life Insurance
Name the Kirksville Arts Association as the
beneficiary on your paid-up life insurance
or purchase a policy naming the KAA the
beneficiary. There are many other uses of
life insurance to fund your charitable giving
goals, please call the Arts Association if you
have questions.
Gifts of Annuity
In exchange for your gift of cash, appreciated
stock or other assets, a gift annuity contract
will guarantee a fixed income for the rest
of your life or the lives of both you and your
spouse. The percentage of income you
receive is determined by your age (or ages for
a two-life annuity). You get a tax deduction the charitable giving
year the gift is made, plus tax-free return of
principal. Part of your gift helps the Kirksville
Arts Association right now.
Gifts of Remembrance
A memorial to the Kirksville Arts Association
is also an opportunity to donate to the KAA in
memory of a friend or loved one.
Gifts of Cash
Cash is still the most popular way to make
charitable gifts. Your gift of cash to the
Kirksville Arts Association could save you
money at tax-filing time. For example, if you
make a $2,000 gift in 2005 and are in the
27.5% tax bracket, your gift could save you
$550 in taxes.
Charitable giving is an American tradition —
one unparalleled by any other country. Current
tax laws provide additional encouragement for
you to express your charitable spirit. Through
careful planning you can identify the method
for making a contribution which best fits your
situation and maximize the impact of your gift
on the charitable organizations you support.
The Kirksville Arts Association will be pleased
to direct you to resources and assist you in
any way as you consider the possibilities for
your gift.
As in all financial decisions, please consult
your financial advisor and tax advisor.
